CAD – Model Space & Paper Space
The building and civil infrastructure market suggests typical requirements for Engineering Document Management (EDM). Each drawer wants a simple and structured way to store and manage models and drawings, including status-, version control and workflow. Given the preference of the civil engineering sector for AutoCAD from Autodesk provides infostrait a full integration with AutoCAD. Depending on the required infrastructure can documents (models, drawings, X-ref’s, etc.) be unlocked with one or more of the following methods: desktop software, Internet client mode or terminal server software.
Management of models, references and derivative drawings
A unique feature of infostrait, no other service provider supports this standard, to manage models with related drawings. All derivative drawings are managed separately, but remain securely attached to the original model.
Almost every CAD application supports the possibility to create a data model based on multiple drawings (layouts). For example, in AutoCAD, the design will be drawed in “Model Space”. Then one or several drawings of this model will be derived. Each drawing will be posted on a separate “Layout” (“Paper Space”). By every drawing will scale and size be decided by placing a framework and title block.

Relationships between model, derived drawings and X-ref’s
The relations between model, derivative drawings and X-ref’s are managed through a tree structure and a uniform method. A draftsman creates a registration card of a new model. On the registration card he will filled out the details of the model (model name, revision, filename, etc.).Then the draftsman can work in a usual way with AutoCAD: in “Model Space” will be drawed and in “Paper Space”, the drawings (Layout pages) will be created by placing a framework, title block and viewports.
With one touch on the button in AutoCAD all derived drawings will be managed. A registration card will be automatically created for each drawing and related to the model. The relations between model and derived drawings can not be changed or disconnected by a user. On the registration card of a drawing will be of course the data of the title block completed. The registration card also includes the data of the release proces.
The costs you will save is evident, since this particular software (AutoCAD, Word, Acrobat Distiller) is required only on the server instead on every computer. For example: a assessor can simultaneously plot multiple drawings from his computer. The CAD system is on the server and not his client.
Printing, plotting or convert
straitBatch makes common actions such as printing, plotting and reporting for which a dedicated application is required take place on a central server, instead of a local computer
A standard plug-in straitBatch (Convert) provides the translation of a CAD file to a CAD-independent format. For this conversion is the choice of TIF or PDF possible. The conversion is with a push of a button from the EDM system (and not from the CAD application) activated by the draftsman. The conversion is done on the server (and not on the client) takes place without the intervention of the draftsman. Through these permanent, screened and unambiguous procedure, the quality of the conversion is guaranteed.
