10 jaar infostrait: een terugblik en een vooruitblik
Nog drie maanden te gaan, en infostrait bestaat 10 jaar! In die tijd hebben we een alleszins gezonde groei mogen meemaken. Zo'n mijlpaal vraagt dan ook om even stil te staan bij het moment en terug te blikken op de jaren die hier aan zijn voorafgegaan.

De klant voorop!
Eind 2009 hebben we - vanwege het bereiken van de pensioengerechtigde leeftijd - afscheid genomen van Jan Koornneef als directeur en medeoprichter van infostrait. Zoals in iedere organisatie het geval is, heeft dit ook binnen infostrait geleid tot een aantal veranderingen - het goede behouden, en waar mogelijk zaken verbeteren. In de kern is infostrait nog steeds dezelfde club mensen - met passie voor ons werk, en met kwaliteit en integriteit als hoogste in het vaandel.

Toch is 2010 ook een jaar van veel veranderingen geweest. Zo hebben we ons nog sterker toegelegd op de behoeften van de (potentiële) klant. Meer informatieverstrekking via seminars en beurzen en een nieuwe, toegankelijkere website staat op stapel. Daarnaast gaan we met onze klanten in gesprek over hun strategie in combinatie met onze lange termijn visie. We zullen onze mogelijkheden tot ondersteuning daarop toespitsen.

Ontwikkelingen in het productaanbod: Enovia V6 & 3DVIA Composer
Wat betreft het productaanbod van infostrait is er een aantal belangrijke ontwikkelingen geweest in 2010: de lancering van de nieuwe versie van ENOVIA V6. V6 wordt ook wel "PLM 2.0" genoemd, en biedt vele mogelijkheden voor onze klanten om producten en processen te verbeteren.

Daarnaast maakt 3DVIA Composer inmiddels een integraal onderdeel van ons productaanbod uit. 3DVIA Composer maakt engineering gegevens beschikbaar in de rest van de organisatie (denk b.v. aan afbeeldingen en video's t.b.v. marketing/sales, training en service).

Tot slot heeft infostrait een overeenkomst gesloten met Technia, zodat ENOVIA V6 klanten ook kunnen profiteren van de zogenaamde 'Technia Value Components'.

infostrait producten: ALFAmail, SmarTeam/FS & straitPortal
Ook wat betreft de door infostrait zelf ontwikkelde producten zijn er grote stappen gezet.

ALFAmail ondersteunt de nieuwe VISI-Standaard, is nog sneller en nog gebruiksvriendelijker geworden en biedt tevens tal van nieuwe functionaliteiten - ook voor gebruik binnen organisaties.

Ook SmarTeam/FS bevat diverse nieuwe functionaliteiten, zoals het registreren van 'stakeholders', risicobeheer en activiteiten.

straitPortal is inmiddels uitgegroeid tot een platform dat niet alleen voor webapplicaties gebruikt kan worden (zowel met als zonder SharePoint), maar ook om Microsoft Office integraties beschikbaar te maken.
straitPortal is bovendien inzetbaar als ontwikkelingsplatform voor een gevarieerd scala aan bedrijfs-applicaties en services. Ten slotte, uit tests is gebleken dat straitPortal schaalbaar is tot duizenden gebruikers.

Mensen & bedrijf
infostrait heeft in 2010 een aantal nieuwe medewerkers mogen verwelkomen. Zowel op het vlak van sales als aan de technische en consultancy-zijde van infostrait hebben we enthousiaste en deskundige medewerkers weten te vinden die infostrait in komende jaren nog sterker zullen maken.

Vooruitblik 2011
Wat verwachten wij van 2011? In 2010 is breed geïnvesteerd in verbreding én verdieping van ons aanbod. We zijn er van overtuigd dat de producten en diensten die infostrait levert tot een duidelijke meerwaarde voor onze klanten leiden. 2011 gaat wat ons betreft dan ook het jaar van "PLM 2.0" zijn!

Het 10-jarig bestaan van infostrait zal uiteraard op passende wijze gevierd gaan worden - zowel voor medewerkers als voor al onze relaties – met o.a. de intrek in ons nieuwe kantoorpand per 1 april 2011! Wij wensen U een gezond en succesvol 2011!

SmarTeam biedt Vanderlande Industries nieuwe mogelijkheden
"Vanuit service nieuwe business genereren"

Wie op een verjaardag een gesprek begint over Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) zal niet snel een grote groep toehoorders aan zich binden. Met een verhaal over een mooie vakantie, een boeiende zakenreis of de cadeautjes die u handig bestelde via internet, kunt u rekenen op meer succes. Het verband tussen één en ander zal vrijwel iedereen ontgaan maar is er absoluut. Het is geworteld in het Brabantse Veghel. Een gesprek met dr. Ir. Chris van Oijen, groepsleider Workflow Information Systems bij Vanderlande Industries. Een gesprek over vliegreizen, pakketbezorging én PLM.

Ze zijn zonder twijfel een van Nederlands even belangrijke als onbekende visitekaartjes in het buitenland. De naam Vanderlande industries zal bij veel Nederlanders niet direct een belletje doen rinkelen. Maar wie op vakantie of zakenreis op een luchthaven zijn bagage laat inchecken, legt in veel gevallen zijn eigendommen in de vertrouwde handen van Vanderlande. In Barcelona, op het Parijse Charles de Gaulle, op London Heathrow en Baltimore-Washington International airport, van Boston tot Bahrain, van Sidney tot Rio de Janeiro, van Alicante tot Vancouver: op tal van plaatsen in de wereld is de bagageafhandeling het werk van Vanderlande industries uit Veghel, Nederland. "Op de grote luchthavens zijn we internationaal marktleider", vertelt Van Oijen. "Internationaal zijn we heel sterk vertegenwoordigd met vestigingen in onder meer de Verenigde Staten, Canada, Mexico, Engeland, Duitsland, Frankrijk, Spanje, Italië, India en China. Dicht bij de klant zijn is een belang¬rijk onderdeel van onze strategie. In Veghel werken we met zo'n 1.100 mensen, wereldwijd met meer dan 2.000."

Partnerrelatie
De implementatie van SmarTeam, was een majeure operatie die glansrijk is geslaagd. "Alle vinkjes staan nu aan", zegt Van Oijen tevreden, erop duidend dat alle mogelijkheden die SmarTeam biedt nu optimaal worden gebruikt. Hij is trots op het werk van zijn eigen mensen maar geeft ook graag Infostrait een grote schouderklop. "Zij mogen zich hierover absoluut op de borst slaan", vindt Van Oijen. "We hebben inmiddels 5 SmarTeam servers met multisite database replicatie en 9 additionele SmarTeam server omgevingen. In totaal zijn nu SmarTeam 75 machines verdeeld over 3 continenten permanent in gebruik om dagelijks te voorzien in de PLM behoefte van Vanderlande wereldwijd. De hoofddatabase staat in Veghel en draait daar, gespiegeld in twee gebouwen. Daarmee waarborgen we dat de systemen wereldwijd 24 uur per dag beschikbaar zijn." Vanderlande gebruikt SmarTeam nu voor integratie van alle bedrijfsbrede processen en systemen. Vanderlande en Infostrait hebben elkaar gevonden in een bijzondere samenwerking. "Het is veel meer een partnerrelatie dan die van leverancier en klant", vindt Van Oijen. "infostrait denkt businesswise met ons mee. Vanuit de vragen die voortkomen uit onze bedrijfsstrategie denken we samen verder en ontwikkelen we oplossingen om die strategie om te zetten in goede bedrijfsresultaten. En zo blijven we innoveren. Omdat het immers altijd beter kan."

Health Check blijft probaat middel voor second opinion
In de vorige nieuwsbrief schreven wij dat de SmarTeam Health Check door veel SmarTeam gebruikers werd aangevraagd om een second opinion van de bestaande SmarTeam omgeving te verkrijgen.

In de afgelopen maanden is een Health Check uitgevoerd bij NEM, SAS Gouda en Holmatro. Alledrie de bedrijven zijn in een bestek van 1-2 dagen doorgelicht, waarna een rapport met verbeterpunten is opgesteld.  In circa 15 mandagen werden alle verschillen geanalyseerd, omgevingen gelijkgetrokken en opnieuw opgebouwd waar nodig.

Stork Prints live met SmarTeam V5R20 en SolidWorks 2010
Na een zorgvuldig uitgevoerd project is Stork Prints 2 maanden geleden live gegaan met SmarTeam V5R20 en SolidWorks 2010.

In de eerste fase van het project zijn er in totaal 15 clients, verdeeld over 2 afdelingen, van een oude SmarTeam V5R11 en SolidWorks 2004 versie geüpgrade naar de nieuwe omgeving. Naast de software werden ook de servers en clients voorzien van nieuwe hardware.

Tijdens het project zijn er een aantal deelfasen doorlopen. Zo is er ruim aandacht besteed aan het verbeteren van de performance en het converteren van alle SolidWorks bestanden. De SolidWorks bestanden zijn geconverteerd door middel van de CADConversie applicatie, een speciaal ontwikkelde applicatie door infostrait. In een parallel proces kunnen meerdere clients worden ingezet voor het converteren van de bestanden. Uiteindelijk levert deze conversie direct een positieve bijdrage aan het verbeteren van de performance, wat natuurlijk een groot voordeel is. Uiteindelijk is een performance verbetering gehaald van 50% bij het openen van grote samenstellingen.

In deze eerste fase werkten beide afdelingen nog op een onafhankelijk platform. Dat wil zeggen dat iedere afdeling nog een eigen SmarTeam server had. Functioneel gezien hebben beide afdelingen wel dezelfde werkmethodieken als het gaat om bijvoorbeeld SW-configuratie management of revisie-management.

De tweede fase van het project was voornamelijk van technische aard, maar wel bijzonder belangrijk voor de IT afdeling. In deze fase zijn de twee afzonderlijke SmarTeam en SolidWorks omgevingen samengevoegd tot één omgeving. Omdat de werkmethodieken al in de eerste fase waren gelijkgetrokken, was het mergen van de database een relatief eenvoudige stap. Het directe voordeel voor de IT afdeling was natuurlijk een verbetering van de Total Cost of Ownership. Immers het aantal servers werd verminderd en eventuele pathes of upgrade in de toekomst kunnen centraal voor alle gebruikers in één keer geregeld worden. Tevens kan het onderhoud op het maatwerk aanzienlijk worden gereduceerd.

Het project werd gemanaged vanuit het zogenaamde Timebox principe. Dit principe gaat uit van projectplanning als vaste parameter. Capaciteit en functionaliteit blijven over als aanpasbare variabelen. In de praktijk komt het erop neer dat vooral de capaciteit aangepast wordt. De opzet van een goed samengesteld projectteam bestaande uit een stuurgroep, projectleiders en key-users, heeft een positieve bijdrage geleverd aan het succes van deze upgrade.

infostrait op InfraTech 2011
Van 11 tot en met 14 januari 2011 vindt het belangrijkste evenement voor de civiele infrasector plaats: InfraTech. infostrait meldt met trots voor de eerste maal deel te nemen aan deze tweejaarlijkse beurs. Vanaf de start van infostrait in april 2001 heeft de focus van infostrait gelegen op optimalisatie van informatieprocessen van organisaties, onder andere in de civiele infrastructuur. Nu, bijna 10 jaar later, is infostrait een leidend bedrijf in de wereld van Systems Engineering, BIM, VISI en COINS.

Tijdens InfraTech 2011 zal infostrait de laatste ontwikkelingen van haar softwareproducten binnen het thema infrastructuur presenteren. U wordt van harte uitgenodigd onze stand te bezoeken. U vindt ons in hal 2, standnummer 204.

straitPortal: SmarTeam PLM voor iedere medewerker
Waarom niet alle gegevens binnen één scherm met een eenduidige gebruikersinterface? Informatie centraliseren is al jaren een toekomstvisie van menig computergebruiker.

Omdat infostrait deze wens ook heeft onderkend, is er jaren geleden gekozen zelf een product te ontwikkelen dat het gat opvult: straitPortal. straitPortal werkt via een browser interface, want informatie beschikbaar maken voor iedere medewerker, mag niet worden beperkt tot een voorgeïnstalleerd programma. Met groot succes mogen we zeggen: duizenden gebruikers maken reeds gebruik van SmarTeam PLM via de browser interface, terwijl velen zich dit niet beseffen. En waarom zouden ze ook? Welke informatie men ook wil opslaan of opvragen: iedereen krijgt wat men wilt en daar gaat het om.

straitPortal combineert het gemak van websites (intranet/extranet) met het dagelijkse zakelijke gebruik van de computer. Of dit nu een "Office-gebruiker" is of een CAD-engineer. De kracht van specifieke informatiesystemen ligt daaraan ten grondslag, maar hier wordt een gebruiker niet mee vermoeid.

Steeds meer organisaties merken de behoefte aan technische informatie bij hun niet-technische medewerkers. Ook de vraag vanuit het buitenland groeit enorm. Om die reden is infostrait begonnen met het opzetten van een partnerkanaal. De partners die infostrait uitkiest zijn stuk voor stuk erkende en hoog aangeschreven SmarTeam resellers. Zij zijn getraind in het herkennen van de behoefte bij hun klanten en kunnen die vraag beantwoorden met de oplossing straitPortal.
Afgelopen jaar heeft infostrait met nieuwe internationale resellers een partnership afgesloten om SmarTeam gebruikers over de hele wereld voorzien van de gebruiksvriendelijke straitPortal software.

ALFAmail gecertificeerd door CROW
infostrait heeft voor het product ALFAmail het keurmerk 'VISI-compatible software' ontvangen. Trudi Hendriksen, Manager Strategische Ontwikkeling van CROW, overhandigde dit keurmerk op 2 november 2010 in Ede aan productmanager Jeroen van Geijlswijk van infostrait.

Na keuring op 14 oktober 2010 - namens CROW - door het onafhankelijk keuringsinstituut TNO is CROW gebleken dat ALFAmail voldoet aan de eisen en richtlijnen die vanuit de VISI-standaard zijn gesteld, zoals gepubliceerd op www.crow.nl/visi.

Het keurmerk 'VISI-compatible software' waarborgt dat softwarepakketten voldoen aan strenge kwaliteitseisen. Dit biedt eindgebruikers de gewenste zekerheid. Met behulp van VISI worden immers belangrijke afspraken over planningen, wijzigingen en betalingen gemaakt. Een gebruiker van VISI-software wil zekerheid hebben dat de samenwerkende partijen in een project te allen tijde traceerbaar over de juiste en actuele informatie en documenten beschikken.

infostrait levert het product ALFAmail aan opdrachtgevers en opdrachtnemers, zoals Rijkswaterstaat, Provincie Drenthe, Waterschap Zeeuwse Eilanden, Strukton Engineering en Heijmans.

Tevens is het product ALFAmail - in de vorm van een API - beschikbaar voor softwarepartijen die de VISI-standaard in hun software willen integreren, of organisaties die ALFAmail willen koppelen met bijvoorbeeld een document management systeem, zoals een integratie met SmarTeam/FS of SharePoint.

SmarTeam/FS versie 2.4.0 algemeen beschikbaar op 17 januari
In 2010 is de functionaliteit van SmarTeam/FS wederom sterk uitgebreid om gebruikers beter te ondersteunen tijdens het opstellen van een vraagspecificatie. Vele controlemogelijkheden vergemakkelijken het opleveren van een correct Programma van Eisen (PvE).

In versie 2.4.0 zijn nieuwe rollen geïntroduceerd. Deze rollen zorgen voor beter onderscheid in functionaliteit. Daarnaast worden hoofdzaken gescheiden van bijzaken. Aparte rollen kunnen toebedeeld worden aan medewerkers voor Risicobeheer en WBS-beheer.

Vanaf maandag 17 januari 2011 is versie 2.4.0 algemeen beschikbaar.

SmarTeam/FS is gebaseerd op het ENOVIA SmarTeam PLM platform van Dassault Systèmes.

Zoals u in de terugblik van Jaap Holweg kon lezen, heeft infostrait vanaf medio 2010 sales, marketing en accountmanagement als functie binnen het bedrijf opgesteld. Met het aanstellen van Jan Stalman als salesmanager en Lars Overbeek als product manager straitPortal, is een serieuze start gemaakt met de commercie.

infostrait 10 years: a retrospect and a preview
Still three months to go, and infostrait exists 10 years! In that time we have had a healthy growth. Such a milestone just asks people to reflect on the moment and look back at the years that preceded his.

The customer comes first!
In late 2009 - on reaching retirement age – we said goodbye to Jan Koornneef as director and co-founder of infostrait. As in any organization, this led to a number of changes within infostrait where the best was preserved and where possible improvement was possible. In essence, infostrait still is the same group of people, with a passion for our work and with quality and integrity as the most important parameters.

2010 was a year of many changes. Therefore we have even more focused on the needs of (potential) customers. More information through seminars and exhibitions and a new, accessible website is planned. We will continue to speak with our clients about their strategy in combination with our long term vision on PLM. We will focus our consultancy to support them reach their goals.

Developments in product offerings: Enovia V6 & 3DVIA Composer
As for the product portfolio of infostrait a number of important developments have been launched in 2010: the new version of ENOVIA V6. V6 is also called "PLM 2.0", and offers many opportunities for our customers in relation to products and processes.

In addition, 3DVIA Composer became an integral part of our product offering. 3DVIA Composer makes engineering data available for the rest of the company (eg images and video serving marketing / sales, training and service).

Finally, a partnership agreement between infostrait and Technia has been signed, so infostrait's ENOVIA V6 customers can also benefit from the 'Technia Value Components'.

For the infostrait product portfolio 2010 also was a year of great strides forward.

ALFAmail supports the new VISI-standard, is even faster and easier to use and offers many new features - even for use within organizations.

SmarTeam/FS includes several new features, including capture of stakeholders, and risk management activities.

straitPortal has become a platform not only to be used for Web applications (with or without SharePoint), but also Microsoft Office integrations are available.
Furthermore straitPortal is used as a development platform for a wide range of business applications and services. Finally, experiments have shown that straitPortal is scalable to thousands of users.

People & Business
infostrait has welcomed a number of new employees in 2010. Both on the sales side as well as the technical and consultancy side of infostrait infostrait acquired enthusiastic and expert staff, which will make infostrait coming year an even stronger partner for your business.

Preview 2011
What do we expect from 2011? In 2010 we made large investments in broadening and deepening our offer. We are convinced that the products and services infostrait delivers, lead to a substantial competitive advantage for our customers. Therefore 2011 is in our opinion the year of "PLM 2.0"!

The 10th anniversary of infostrait will - of course - be duly celebrated, both for our staff as well as our relations - including with the move into our new office by April 1, 2011!

SmarTeam offers Vanderlande industries new possibilities
"generating new business from service"

If you were to start a conversation at an anniversary party concerning product Lifecycle management (PLM), you would not quickly draw a large number of interested listeners. With a tale concerning a beautiful holiday, a captivating business trip or gifts which you skillfully ordered on the Internet, you could count on more success. The connection, between these activities, escapes nearly everyone, but is absolutely there. It is rooted in Veghel, the Netherlands. Here is a conversation with Dr. Ir. Chris van Oijen, group leader Workflow Information Systems at Vanderlande industries: A conversation concerning air travel, parcel delivery and PLM.

Abroad, Vanderlande Dutch business cards are as important as they are unknown. The name, Vanderlande Industries, will not immediately ring a bell with many Dutch. But those on holiday or business trips, who check their baggage, in many cases put their property in the trusted hands of Vanderlande. In Barcelona, at the Parisian Charles the Gaulle, at London Heathrow and Baltimore-Washington international Airport, from Boston to Bahrain, from Sidney to Rio de Janeiro, from Alicante to Vancouver: at numerous places in the world the baggage handling is the work of Vanderlande industries in Veghel, the Netherlands. "At the large airports we are the international market leader," says van Oijen. "We are very strongly represented internationally with offices in, among others, the United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, India and China. Getting close to the customer is an important component of our strategy. In Veghel we work with approximately 1,100 people, worldwide with more than 2,000."

Partner relationship
The implementation of SmarTeam, was a major operation that became a glowing success. "All line items are now checked off," says van Oijen satisfied, indicating that all possibilities which SmarTeam offers are now being optimally used. He is proud of the work of his own people, but also gladly gives Infostrait a large pat on the back. "They can beat their chests," says van Oijen.
Meanwhile, we have 5 SmarTeam servers with multisite database replication and 9 additional SmarTeam server environments. In total, 75 SmarTeam machines, divided over 3 continents, are permanently in use to daily foresee the PLM needs of Vanderlande worldwide. The main database stands in Veghel and runs redundantly in two buildings. With that we guarantee that the systems are available 24 hours per day worldwide." Vanderlande now uses SmarTeam for the integration of all of its company-wide processes and systems. Vanderlande and Infostrait have found themselves in an extraordinary cooperation. "It is much more a partner relationship than one of supplier and customer." According to van Oijen, "Infostrait works with us. From the questions originating from our company strategy, we think ahead together and develop solutions which transform strategy into operational results. And this way we continue to innovate, because it can always be better."

Health Check remains effective tool for second opinion
In the previous newsletter we wrote that the Health Check was requested by many SmarTeam users for a second opinion of the existing SmarTeam environment.

In recent months, a health check was conducted at NEM, SAS Gouda and Holmatro. All three companies were screened in a couple of days, after which a report with recommendations was drawn up.

For NEM, the Health Check was the reason for a subsequent optimization project of the multi-site environment. In about 15 man-days infostrait's consultants analyzed all differences, aligned environments and reconstructed the SmarTeam Multisite environment where necessary.

Stork Prints live with SmarTeam V5R20 and SolidWorks 2010
After a carefully executed project Stork Prints went live with SmarTeam V5R20 and SolidWorks 2010 about 2 months ago.

In the first phase of the project, a total of 15 clients, divided into 2 sections, of an old V5R11 SmarTeam and SolidWorks 2004 version were upgraded to the new environment. Besides the software the servers and clients were also replaced with new hardware.

During the project a number of sub-phases were passed. Much attention was given to improving the performance and converting of all SolidWorks files. The SolidWorks files were converted by the CADConversie application, a specially developed application by infostrait. In a parallel process multiple clients were used to convert the files. Ultimately, this conversion provides an immediate positive contribution to performance improvement, which is a big advantage. Ultimately there is a performance improvement achieved of 50% when opening large assemblies.

In this first phase, both departments still worked on independent IT platforms. This implies that each department has its own SmarTeam server. From a functional point of view, both divisions had the same working methods in terms of SW configuration management and revision management.

The second phase of the project was essentially technical, but very important for the IT department. In this phase, the two separate SmarTeam and SolidWorks environments were merged together into one environment. Given that the working methods in the first phase were aligned, the merging of the database was a relatively easy step. The direct benefit for the IT department of course was an improvement in the Total Cost of Ownership. Indeed, the number of servers was reduced and any path of upgrade in the future can be executed for all users at the same time. Also, the maintenance of customized software can be significantly reduced.

The project was managed by the so-called Timebox principle. This principle is based on the assumption that project parameters are fixed. Capacity and functionality remain as adjustable variables. This comes down to the fact that capacity adjustments are used to steer the project within time. The well-composed project team, consisting of a steering committee, project leaders and key users, has had a positive contribution to the success of this upgrade.

Why not all data within one screen with a unique user interface? Centralization of information has long been a vision of many computer users.

ALFAmail certified by CROW
infostrait received the certificate "VISI-compatible software" for its product ALFAmail. Trudi Henderson, Manager Strategic Development of CROW, handed over the certificate on November 2, 2010 in Ede to product manager Jeroen van Geijlswijk of infostrait.

Examination on October 14, 2010 by the independent qualifying institute TNO - on behalf of CROW - has shown that ALFAmail meets the requirements and guidelines of the VISI-standard, such as published on www.crow.nl/visi (dutch).

The label "VISI-compatible software" ensures that the software meets stringent quality requirements. This provides end users with assurance. With the aid of VISI are indeed important agreements about schedules, changes and payments made. A user of VISI software wants to be sure at any time that the cooperating parties in a project are traceable over the correct and actual information and that documents are available.

infostrait delivers the product ALFAmail to both principals as contractors, such as Rijkswaterstaat, the province of Drenthe, Waterschap Zeeuwse Eilanden, Strukton Engineering and Heijmans.
